Lamer has record-setting day at DWU Open
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field teams continued their success as they hosted the DWU Alumni Open Saturday in Mitchell.
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field teams continued their success as they hosted the DWU Alumni Open Saturday in Mitchell.
The Tigers tallied another successful meet in the weight throw competitions for both men and women as Tyson Jenkins (Clark, S.D.) and Mikaela Stofferahn (Dell Rapids, S.D.) both took home first place in the shot put. Jenkins threw a season-best 57-3 feet to win the competition and sits in second place in the NAIA. Stofferahn set a school record with a mark of 45-5.25 feet in the shot put and now is ninth in the NAIA for shot put.
Madison Witte (Huron, S.D.) also posted a huge day as she came in second place in the shot put. Witte posted a mark of 42-4 feet which is good for second all-time in school history and set a personal record.
Matthew Campbell (Gregory, S.D.) finished in second place behind Jenkins in the shot put with a mark of 52-8.75 and finished in fourth place in the weight throw with a toss of 54-1.75 feet. Dawson Kerzman (Dell Rapids, S.D.) set a personal record in the weight throw with a mark of 49-0.75 feet which also is good for fifth all-time in school history.
Kamberlyn Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) continued her impressive season setting a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.98 seconds. She currently ranks 11th in the NAIA in the competition. She placed first in the long jump with a leap of 18-9.75. The top four in the long jump all came from DWU as Lydia Gerber (Canton, S.D.) finished second with a leap of 17-9, while Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) tallied a jump of 17-0 for third place and Claire Stoller (Madison, S.D.) finished in fourth place with a mark of 16-9.75. Stoller also competed in the triple jump for the Tigers with a leap of 36-9.5, good for third all-time in school history.
Lia GuiGui (Rapid City, S.D.) won the high jump with a leap of 5-1.75, while Jared Rabenberg (Britton, S.D.) placed second on the men's side with a leap of 6-6.
In the 600-meter run, Rex Schlicht (Woonsocket, S.D.) finished fourth with a time of 1:25 minutes. On the women's side, Samantha Schuyler (Winner, S.D.) placed seventh with a time of 1:46.
In the 1,000-meter run, Brendan Langbehn (Lennox, S.D.) set a personal record and finished third with a time of 2:38. Mckenna Rodgers (St. Michael, Minn.) finished in third place on the women's side with a time of 3:12.15, while Delanie Larson (Gettysburg, S.D.) finished with a time of 3:31.
Emily McDonald (Crooks, S.D.) participated in the 60-meter hurdles and finished with a time of 9.99 and sits in fourth place all-time in school history.
In the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay event, both men and women cracked the top-10 all-time in school history. The women consisted of Schuyler, Lamer, Rodgers, and Sage Pulse (Kimball, S.D.) and posted a time of 4:20. The men's team had Langbehn, Schlicht, Austin Hughes (Box Elder, S.D.) and Devin Rihanek (Plankinton, S.D.) compete in the event and finished with a time of 3:32.
The Tigers will compete at the SDSU Classic on Friday and Saturday in Brookings, S.D.
