TIGER SOFTBALL WRAPS UP PLAY IN THE DORDT DOME SECURING SECOND WIN AGAINST PERU STATE
Sioux Center, Iowa — Dakota Wesleyan rebounds in final game from the Dordt Dome Classic, picking up a 6-2 win against Peru State behind three homeruns from two different players. Meghan Daffern goes the distance as well tossing all seven innings.

How It Happened
Game One:
Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Mercy both stranded a runner on base in the first inning of the game after each team had two outs against them. MMU opened the top of the second inning with a walk before a hitting a single to center field to lead 1-0. Mount Mercy continued with two outs with an RBI single before their third out to lead the Tigers 2-0. Kaylie Mathiasen walked to first as the leadoff batter for DWU in the bottom of the inning before Reagan Grossi hit a single placing runners on first and second before stranding them on second and third. DWU got out of a jam in the top of the third allowing no MMU runs to score, escaping a bases loaded situation. The Tigers allowed two more MMU runs in the fifth, one in the sixth , and three in the top of the seventh as DWU stranded a total of eight runners on base in the game.
Katelyn Farris tossed two and two-thirds innings allowing three hits and two runs, both of which were earned. Danielle Ratute tossed the remaining, four and one-third innings allowing six hits and seven runs, only one earned run. Meghan Daffern was 2-of-2 in the game, while Grossi went 1-of-2 and Briana Dawson was 1-of-1.
Game Two:
Mathiasen got the Tigers rolling in the second inning of game two from the Dordt Dome today taking a stroll to first base. Bagley stepped to the plate with no outs and one runner on, sending a no doubter over the wall for a two run shot, putting the Tigers ahead 2-0 over Peru State before stranding two more runners on base. After a quick top of the third and fourth by DWU and PSC stranding some runners on base in the second, third, and fourth innings; Mull did what she's been doing at least once a game to start the season, pushing the Tigers lead to 3-0 with a solo home run in the fifth for a 3-0 lead. Peru grabbed a pair of runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single, cutting the margin to one. Dakota Wesleyan stranded a pair of runners on second and third in the sixth inning, but made quick work of Peru in the bottom, going three-up and three-down. Mull started the final inning for DWU reaching first on an error before advancing to second. Burke followed with a single before a double steal was the signal given by first year head coach Tommy Downs, moving Mull and Burke to second and third with no outs. Daffern steps to the plate scoring Mull and moving Burke to third as she grounded out to first. One down and the Tigers ahead, 4-2, Bagley goes long for her second homerun of the game, making it a 6-2 lead. DWU made quick work of Peru State in the bottom of the seventh, grabbing a pair of out on a six-four-three double play before a lineout to right field ending the game.
Daffern earned the complete game win, tossing seven full innings, allowing nine hits, two runs, and striking out five on 29 batters faced. Mull went 2-of-4 with two runs, one RBI, a homerun, and two stolen bases. Burke was also 2-of-4, posting one run, two homeruns, and a stolen base. Bagley, the big bat of the day; 2-of-3 two runs, four RBI, two homeruns, and a stolen base.

Tiger softball will have a week off before stepping back on the field for another double header on Saturday, February 25. DWU will make the short trip north to Presentation College to play in the PC Saints Dome in a noon and 2 p.m. first pitch double header.
