How it Happened –
Dakota Wesleyan golf opened its spring season by traveling to Windsor, Colorado to compete in the Battle at the Dance. This meet was hosted by Hastings College and marks the beginning of the spring season. Sara Sudenga led the women's team through the first round as she scored an 83 and sits eighth. Connor Calahan is one stroke over par (73) and is tied for eleventh currently through the first 18 holes. Juan Florez follows right behind Calahan with his 74.
Head Coach Jeff Meyerink's Thoughts –
The women had a tough day, but we had a few good things come from today. Sara Sudenga led the way with an 83 which is a solid round for a freshman at a high-level course like Raindance. Kaylee Johnson really impressed me today. She was playing with some very talented players that hit it long and got off to a rough start, we had a talk, made some adjustments, and she stepped up and challenged them the rest of the way in, carding an 88. Couldn't be happier for the way she finished, she continues to improve every single day and has the potential to be a difference maker for this team. Erin Moncur's 87 and Shauna Radant's 98 rounded out the team score for us. We have some work to do tomorrow.
On the men's side they were in the lead much of the day and they knew it. They were fully engaged all day and that's no easy task. They have worked very hard the last couple months and now they are seeing results. They are excited for tomorrow and I have total confidence they can run the leaders down. Individually, Connor Calahan led the way with a 73 and Juan Florez carded a 74. They are both very talented players and it's great to see them perform so well in the first competitive round of the year. Carson Van Beek finished with a 78 and Peyton Bettcher an 81 rounding out our top 4 scores from today. Back in action at 10AM (MT) tomorrow."
