
Wayne, Neb. - The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers kicked off their outdoor season at the Wildcat Classic, hosted by Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. The meet began at 10:00 a.m. with the throwing field events, followed by the running events, which started at 2:00 p.m.
Track Events:
Sprints-
- Tanley Goebel (Jr.) made her junior year debut in the 100m and 200m opens. She came close to breaking her PR's in both of the events she competed in. in the 100m Goebel ran a 13.46. In the 200m she ran a 27.98, placing her 0.03 away from breaking her PR.
- Hailey Oswald (So.) ran in the 200m. The sophomore ran a time of 27.86 seconds. Oswald also ran in the 400m. Posting a time of 1:06 to open up her outdoor season.
- Ava Ludwig (Fr.) made her collegiate debut in the 100m hurdles. Clocking a time of 17 seconds. She's eager to apply the new experince she learned from the race as she aims to carry over her successful indoor 60m hurdles perfromance to the outdoor season.
Field Events:
Jumps-
- Dani Deffenbaugh (So.) competed in the long jump and set two PR's throughout the day. Her best jump of the day was 4.73m. Deffenbaugh continues her steady improvement in the event.
- Tiegan Meyer (So.) made her college debut by competing in the high jump. She hit a PR of 1.41m.
- Elizabeth Heinen (Fr.) had a strong return to the high jump with some solid jumping. She cleared 1.51m in the high jump that earned her 6th overall. Her performance earned her a spot on the outdoor top-ten list, now ranking #10.
- Ava Ludwig (Fr.) also achieved a PR in the long jump. Ludwig jumped a 4.89m leap into the sand. This marked a 0.26m improvement, showcasing her growth in the long jump as well.
Throws-
- Abby Magnuson (Grad.) competed in the discus and shot put. In shot Magnuson threw a 13.15m throw, which places her as #8 in the nation. In discus, Magnuson, threw 39.95m. In shot Magnuson placed 2nd overall and in discus she placed 12th.
- Samantha Kludt (Jr.) competed in the discus, hammer, and javelin. In the discus, she set a college PR with a throw of 31.95m. Which now ranks her as #7 in the Tigers' outdoor history books. She also threw 39.81m in the hammer and 24.86m in the javelin to kick off her season. Overall Kludt placed 29th in the discus, 28th in the hammer, and 19th in the javelin.
- Dani Deffenbaugh (So.) threw in the javelin for the first time. She threw 24.04 meters.
Looking Ahead-
The young team gained valuable experince in their first outdoor meet of the year, and looks to build on it throughout the season. Aiming to lower their times and to improve marks. Next week, the women's track and field will travel to the University of South Dakota to compete in the Early Bird Invite.
