
Vermillion, S.D. - The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers traveled to the University of South Dakota to take part in the USD Early Bird Invite. The meet was a two-day event that started on Friday, April 4th. The event gave the young team many opportunities to compete against strong competition.
Track Events:
Sprints-

Tanley Goebel (Jr.) competed in the 100m and 200m opens. She ran 13.86 seconds in the 100m, and 28.42 seconds in the 200m.

Hailey Oswald (So.) ran in the 200m adn the 400m. The sophomore ran a time of 27.77 seconds in the 200m. Oswald also ran in the 400m. Posting a time of 1:07 minute run.

Ava Ludwig (Fr.) improved in the 100m hurdles. She ran a 16.94 second run. The young Tiger continues to focus on getting more comfortable in the event.
Field Events:
Jumps-

Dani Deffenbaugh (So.) competed in the long jump. Her best jump of the day was 4.60m. Deffenbaugh continues her steady improvement in the event as she finds more familiarity in the new event.

Tiegan Meyer (So.) no heighted in women's long, but continues to grow.

Elizabeth Heinen (Fr.) competed in the high jump. She was one inch away from hitting her season PR. She looks to piece things together as she finds a way to take her practice marks to the meets.

Ava Ludwig (Fr.) came close to her collegiate PR of 4.89m, her best jump of the day was 4.86m. Ludwig also competed in high jump. Her best jump was 1.53m. A day of close PR's showing consistency in her jump performance.
Throws-

Abby Magnuson (Grad.) competed in the discus and shot put. In the shot Magnuson threw a 13.78m throw. Not only did Magnuson place 2nd overall in the event, but has qualified for nationals by hitting the B-Standard. In discus, Magnuson, threw 39.75m.

Samantha Kludt (Jr.) competed in the discus, hammer, and javelin. In the discus, she threw 28.08m. She also threw 42.75m in the hammer and now places her as #3 in Tiger outdoor history. In the javelin Kludt threw 25.59m as her best mark of the day.

Dani Deffenbaugh (So.) threw well in the javelin event, but unfortunately with the weather all three of her marks counted as fouls. She looks to make them count next week.
Tigers Looking Ahead-
The Tiger team looks to continue on building. Experience is valuable to this young team as they aim to lower their times and to improve marks. Next week, the men's track and field will travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take part in the annual Sioux City Relays.
