TRACK AND FIELD CAPTURES SEVERAL TOP FINISHES AT DORDT INVITE
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – In its first competition in 2022, the Dakota Wesleyan University track and field program threw on the spikes while several Tigers captured first-place performances against fellow Great Plains Athletic Conference competition at the Dordt Open on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kicking off the day in the field events, the Dakota Wesleyan throwers once again had an impressive outing starting with the men's shot put and weight throw. Senior Caden Milmine swept the field in the shot put with a toss of 49-6.5 while fellow DWU throws specialist Chris Zanotto also claimed a top spot with a mark of 52-7.5 in the weight throw. Milmine, the Buffalo, Wyo., native still maintains a NAIA 'B' standard in the shot with a previous mark of 50-7.5.
In the women's throwing events, Katlyn Briggs and Morgan Taft paced DWU with titles in the weight throw and shot put, respectively. The Tigers claimed the top-4 spots in the weight throw as Briggs recorded a mark of 53-9.75 followed by Taft (51-7.25), Lila Gronseth (43-3.75) and Darby Deffenbaugh (43-1.5). In the event, both Briggs and Taft possess the NAIA 'A' standard on the season sitting second and third on the NAIA national leaderboards, respectively.
Taft, the senior from Norris, S.D., also registered a first-place finish in the shot with a distance of 39-0.25 while Gronseth came away with third place following a throw of 38-1.5.
Elsewhere in the field events, Lia Guigui, Taylor Pourier, and Ryley Johansen led the DWU jumpers with noteworthy performances in the women's and men's long jump. Guigui, the senior from Rapid City, S.D., earned a runner-up finish with a leap of 16-0.5 while Pourier, who won her flight, placed third after a jump of 15-8.25. Meanwhile, Johansen, who competed in his first action as a Tiger, took fifth in the men's final thanks to a distance of 20-6.25.
Hurdlers specialist Avany Long finished sixth in the 55-metrer hurdles clocking a time of 9.79 while Guigui placed fifth in the 55-meter dash finals. Also on the track, Wyatt Baldauf and Caleb Sayler crossed the finish line back-to-back in the men's 3,000-meter run finishing fifth and sixth.
