TIGERS CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS HAVE PROMISING START AT AUGUSTANA TWILIGHT MEET
Sioux Falls, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan Men and Women's cross country opened their 2022 season at the Augustana Twilight in Sioux Falls, S.D. The teams had four representatives on the men's side competing in the 4-mile race and one for the women's racing in the 5k race.

Women's 5K Race:
215th - Annika Vermeulen - 21:56.75
Men's 4-Mile Race:
69th - Wyatt Baldauf - 20:42.43
70th - Caleb Sayler - 20:42.99
192nd - Layne Lewis - 22:16.19
263rd - Hunter Shanks - 23:34.61
Recap:
The lone Tiger racer for women's cross country was senior, Annika Vermeulen who finished in 215th place out of 313 racers with a time of 21:56.75 which was one of her best times in her career at Dakota Wesleyan. Newly appointed assistant coach, Roger Malonda had this to say about Vermeulen, "Annika was able to have a consistent second half after an aggressive start."
On the men's side the top finishers were Wyatt Baldauf finishing in 69th place out of 321 racers with a 20:42.43 time and Caleb Sayler right behind Baldauf in 70th position crossing with a 20:42.99 time. Malonda had this to say about Sayler and Baldauf's performance, "Caleb and Wyatt took care of business up front for us. They both had very impressive summers, so their confidence is very high."
Layne Lewis crossed in 192nd place with a time of 22:16.19 and Hunter Shanks with a 263rd finish with a time of 23:34.61 which were both faster times than they had recorded last year at the same event and drawing these comments from coach Malonda, "Hunter and Layne had a strong showing, earning faster times than their last time at Augustana."
