MITCHELL, S.D. – As the 2019 Dakota Wesleyan University softball season comes to an end, the Tigers will remember the impact of senior slugger Karly Severance (Las Vegas, Nev.) after setting the program career homerun record.
Severance provided a consistent stick in the lineup for head coach Ed Kieff during her four years with the program. She tallied her most productive year a season ago when the first baseman belted eight homeruns, 25 runs batted in and collected 32 hits.
During her four years, Severance notched 25 homeruns that set the program record, which was held last by Hailey Unger who hit 18 homeruns from 2013-16. Severance hit six homeruns during her freshman year, seven during her sophomore season, eight in her junior campaign and tallied four homeruns this season.
Severance also made an impact in the field. The 6-foot-2 senior finished her career with a .985 fielding percentage in 166 games. She added 979 putouts with only 15 errors.
Severance was named to her second All-GPAC Honorable Mention team in her career this week. She stamped her name into DWU softball program record books throughout the past four years.
She graduated with an Elementary Education major and a minor in coaching.
