TIGERS EARN THE SPLIT AGAINST BEAVERS, KRCIL EARNS FIRST WIN WITH COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT
Sioux Center, Iowa – Dakota Wesleyan softball earned the split Saturday in their doubleheader matchup against Buena Vista University. The Tigers got a standout performance from Mitchell, S.D. Sophomore pitcher Keirstyn Krcil who tossed her first career complete game shutout, which also was his first collegiate win in the circle. Krcil showed her grit on the mound when runners were in scoring position, as she left a total of eight Beaver runners on base. Krcil had two crucial moments in the game with the first being in the fourth inning, with two runners on and nobody out, she fielded a ball back to the mound and started the chain of turning three and executing the nearly impossible triple play to get out of the jam. Fast forward to the sixth and Krcil was facing another tight spot with bases loaded and one out. The sophomore pitcher bared down and retired the next two hitters via the strikeout to keep BU off the scoreboard. The seventh called for no dramatics or comeback as the Mitchell native sat the Beavers down to complete the complete game shutout and give her team the first win of the season. At the plate DWU was led by McKinnely Mull going 2 for 3 with two stolen bases and a run scored.
Game two saw Dakota Wesleyan jump out to an early 2-0 lead through one and a half innings, but in the bottom half ran into trouble allowing five Buena Vista runners to cross home plate. Dakota Wesleyan got runners on but it was them this time that struggled to cash in on runners in scoring position, leaving runners on in all five of the remaining innings, and in scoring position for four of the five. Sophie Wietzema got the nod in game two and struggled with command issuing three walks in her one inning of work. Ivy Woolwine came on in relief and did a solid job going five innings, scattering seven hits that amounted to just one lone run. On the offensive side Brianna Dawson went a perfect 3 for 3 on the day while Peyton Bagley continued her strong start to the season going 2 for 4 with a double and stolen base. Nora Nelson had a solid day swinging the bat as well with her two hits and a double.
