DWU announces Hall of Fame Class of 2016
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University is proud to announce the inductees of the DWU Hall of Fame Class of 2016. Five deserving former Tiger athletes and one amazing contributing couple will be inducted to the Hall of Fame as a part of the Athletic Banquet at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the Sherman Center on the campus of DWU.

Five deserving former Tiger athletes and one amazing contributing couple will be inducted to the Hall of Fame as a part of the Athletic Banquet at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the Sherman Center on the campus of DWU.
The Class of 2016 includes men's basketball's Preston Broughton, softball player Kelly Custard, football's James Hansen, women's basketball's Allison Johnson and women's soccer goalkeeper Danielle Richardson, all of which will be inducted as athletes. Lou and Carol Sebert will also join the Hall of Fame as contributors.
The group is the 32nd in DWU Hall of Fame history and will bring the total inductees to 169. The class of 2016 includes just the third DWU softball player and the first Tiger soccer player from men or women.
Preston Broughton
Men's Basketball 2005-10
Graduated in 2010
An NAIA All-American First Team in 2008, Corsica, S.D., native Preston Broughton will be inducted into the DWU Hall of Fame. Broughton was also named GPAC Player-of-the-Year in the 2007-08 season for the DWU men's basketball team. As a senior, he was an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention. He was an NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 season. Broughton averaged 12.7 points per game from 2005-10. He finished his DWU career playing in 129 games, scoring 1,644 points, grabbing 896 rebounds and dishing out 154 assists. Broughton was on the All-GPAC Second Team in 2006-07 and on the All-GPAC First Team in 2007-08 and 2009-10. He helped the Tigers to three 20-game win seasons, finishing 24-8 in 2006-07, 24-9 in 2007-08 and 28-6 in 2009-10. The Tigers made four appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.
Preston now works as an Ag Industry Specialist for Wells Fargo in Mitchell.
Kelly Custard
Softball 1997-2000
Graduated in 2000
The greatest pitcher in DWU softball history Kelly Custard, an Omaha, Neb., native is set to join the DWU Hall of Fame. Custard was a four-year starter from 1997 to 2000 and an All-Conference performer four times in her career. Custard holds DWU records with 30 pitching wins in her career the best single-season ERA 1.20 ERA in 1999. She was named her team's MVP in all four years as a Tiger. Custard was one of the best softball players to ever wear a DWU uniform.
Custard now lives in the Detroit, Mich., area and works as a freelance court reporter and transcriptionist. She ran and completed the New York City Marathon in 2010.
James Hansen
Football 2007-10
Graduated in 2011
Rapid City, S.D., native James Hansen has been selected to the DWU Hall of Fame. The 2010 AFCA All-American was one of the best offensive linemen in the NAIA during his time as a Tiger. Hansen was also named Victory Sports Network All-American in 2010 and 2008 College Fanz All-American Honorable Mention. The 6-foot-2 offensive guard was a three-time All-GPAC First Team and a Second Team member once. In 2011, Hansen was named the Rapid City College Male Athlete-of-the-Year.
After college, Hansen returned to Rapid City and currently works for the South Dakota Department of Corrections as a parole agent.
Allison Johnson
Women's Basketball 2005-10
Graduated in 2010
With 1,355 career points, Allison Johnson joins the Hall of Fame after a standout career for DWU women's basketball. Johnson was a NAIA Athlete Scholar in 2008-09 and 2009-10. She was also a GPAC representative for the 2009 Emil S. Liston Award. Averaging 14.6 points per game throughout her career, Johnson was an All-GPAC Second Team performer in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The Mount Vernon, S.D., native moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., following college and currently works as a physician assistant at Orthopedic Institute.
Danielle Richardson
Women's Soccer 2007-10
Graduated in 2011
DWU graduate Danielle Richardson, a native of Wichita, Kan., will be inducted to the DWU Hall of Fame as the first ever member from the Tiger women's soccer team. The 2009 NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, the first ever for DWU women's soccer, was a member of the 17-1-4 2009 GPAC Championship Team. She helped lead DWU to 33 wins over a two-year period from 2009-10. Richardson was also a two-time NAIA Scholar Athlete and 2010 CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team. The two-time GPAC Defensive-Player-of-the-Year was a four-time All-GPAC Honoree. Richardson holds school records for shutouts in a season (12), saves in a career (495), wins in a career (41) and shutouts in a career (28). She earned All-GPAC First Team honors in 2009 and 2010, while picking up Second Team recognition in 2008 to go along with five GPAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week awards in her career. Richardson was named a team captain for three years at DWU.
Richardson now lives in Plankinton, S.D., and works for the Aurora Plains Academy as a unit manager working with at-risk adolescents. She is currently in graduate school, pursuing a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is married with two step kids.
Lou and Carol Sebert
Contributors
For decades, Lou and Carol Sebert have been a staple of Dakota Wesleyan University athletics. The couple has given generously to the school for years and can be spotted in the same seats at every Tiger home game. Several of the couple's children are alumni of DWU.
Lou and Carol have lived in Mitchell since 1968 after moving from McLaughlin, S.D. Lou accepted a position at Dakota Pump in 1972, working to later own the business, which is now run by the couple's three sons. Lou has been very involved in Mitchell, serving on many boards with the Chamber, St Joseph Hospital and now Avera Queen of Peace. He served 8 years in the SD House of Representatives. After that he ran and served as Mayor of Mitchell for 6 years.
Carol had the pleasure of being a stay at home Mom, raising their six kids. Formerly, she worked in the snack shop at Dakota Wesleyan University. She has served on several boards and enjoys volunteering her time in various ways around the community.
The couple enjoys spending time with their kids and 14 grandkids these days, while always making time for DWU athletics.
