Cheeseman named WBCA All-American
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball senior Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) was named to the 2020 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA NAIA All-American list, it was announced by the WBCA on Monday.
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University women's basketball senior Kynedi Cheeseman (Alexandria, S.D.) was named to the 2020 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA NAIA All-American list, it was announced by the WBCA on Monday.
The WBCA was founded in 1981 and is the professional association for coaches of women's and girls' basketball at all levels of competition. The All-American Team is comprised of a Player-of-the-Year, 10 All-American members and 20 Honorable Mention members. According to the WBCA website, there is not a First Team or Second Team, just an All-American Team and an Honorable Mention Team.
Cheeseman was named one of the 10 members of the All-American Team for the first time in her career. She completed her senior season averaging 20.7 points per game, good for fifth in the NAIA Division II. She also ranked fifth with 663 points this season and was ninth with an 85.4% free-throw percentage.
She is only the second player in DWU women's basketball history to surpass 2,000 career points as she has 2,130, behind only Randi Morgan who tallied 2,557 from 2000-04. Cheeseman completes her career averaging 15.1 points per game, shooting 45.8% from the field and 86.6% from the free-throw line.
