DWU closes nonconference slate at Jamestown
MITCHELL, S.D. – The No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan University football team showed its resolve in topping No. 8 Tabor College in the KCAC/GPAC Challenge last weekend at Joe Quintal Field. The Tigers close the nonconference portion of the 2016 schedule against the University of Jamestown at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jamestown, N.D., as DWU looks to enter Great Plains Athletic Conference competition with momentum.
MITCHELL, S.D. – The No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan University football team showed its resolve in topping No. 8 Tabor College in the KCAC/GPAC Challenge last weekend at Joe Quintal Field. The Tigers close the nonconference portion of the 2016 schedule against the University of Jamestown at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jamestown, N.D., as DWU looks to enter Great Plains Athletic Conference competition with momentum.
The matchup with the Jimmies is the first on the road for DWU this season after splitting two games at home to open the schedule. After falling to rival Dakota State University in the season opener, the Tigers made a statement with a resounding win over the highly-ranked Bluejays.
Senior wide receiver Dustin Livingston (Irene, S.D.) has been a standout at the wide receiver position and in the return game. He caught six passes for 134 yards and two scores, while returning a punt for a touchdown in the win over Tabor. In two games, Livingston has 12 catches for 275 yards and three scores. Against Tabor, he moved in the sixth on the DWU all-time receiving yards list and currently has 1,302 in his career.
For his efforts, Livingston was named the GPAC Special Teams Player of the Week, while also picking up DWU Tiger of the Week honors.
After being limited to just passing in week one, junior quarterback Dillon Turner (Salem, Ark.) was able to show off his dual-threat abilities against Tabor. He finished 16-of-27 passing for 197 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing 15 times for 98 yards. Sophomore Jonny Withrow (Kimball, Neb.) took the bulk of the carries at running back with 15 rushes for 82 yards and two scores.
The Jimmies come into Saturday's game off of a win against Concordia College (Minn.) 30-13 last weekend in Jamestown. The Jimmies outgained Concordia 383 to 262, while running 15 more plays. Jamestown quarterback Dylan Klatt finished 14-of-24 passing with for 244 yards and two scores, while receiver Branden Edwards caught five passes for 116 yards and a score. The Jimmies are 1-1 this season after a season opening loss to Valley City State University 15-10.
The Tigers and Jimmies have played 23 times on the football field, with Jamestown holding a 12-11 advantage in the series.
