Softball drops pair of contests at PC Dome Classic
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games as they fell to Mayville State University 5-2 in the first game, and dropped the second game to Dickinson State University 6-0 on Saturday in the final day of the PC Dome Classic in Aberdeen, S.D.

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games as they fell to Mayville State University 5-2 in the first game, and dropped the second game to Dickinson State University 6-0 on Saturday in the final day of the PC Dome Classic in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Comets (1-2) jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first inning as they scored two runs on three hits to take a 2-0 lead.
Chaydon Metzger (Larchwood, Iowa) began the bottom half of the first inning with a triple down the right field line, before Adrianna Thomason (Las Vegas, Nev.) singled to score Metzger, making it a one run game.
In the bottom of the third inning, Stephanie Gabel (Sioux Falls, S.D.) hit a double down the right field line and later scored thanks to a fielder's choice to even up the game at 2-2.
Mayville State tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth, followed by another run in the seventh inning to extend their lead to 5-2.
DWU could not answer and was held scoreless throughout the final four innings to end the game.
Alyssa Garcia (L.A. Verne, Calif.) led the way as she went 3-for-4 at the plate, as Metzger went 2-for-4 and Madeline Else (Holstein, Iowa) tallied two hits for the Tigers.
In the second game, the Blue Hawks (2-5) jumped out to a quick lead by scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first frame.
Dickinson State added another run in the bottom of the second inning to push their lead to 5-0.
The Tigers (6-4) could only tally one hit throughout the game as the Blue Hawks added another run to bring the final score to 6-0.
Reagan Nebel (Hayti, S.D.) had the lone hit for the Tigers as she went 1-for-2 at the plate. Meghan Daffern (Tehachapi, Calif.) was charged with the loss on the mound as she pitched five innings while allowing seven hits and striking out two batters.
The Tigers are back in action against Jarvis Christian College and the University of Antelope Valley on Saturday March 7 at the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
