Recap –
The Tigers 77-57 win over the Bruins was thanks to the dominance in the paint for the DWU offense. Dakota Wesleyan outscored Bellevue 50-28 in the paint. Most of that damage coming from senior, Jada Campbell who went off for 28 points in the contest with 20 of those 28 points coming in the paint. DWU also won the rebounding battle 46-31 showing the paint presence they had today. Reiner did it all for the Tigers tonight with her 13 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and two steals.
The first quarter saw the Bruins jump out to an early 7-4 lead after getting a three-pointer to fall. DWU quickly grabbed the lead back off an Ihnen layup and free throws from Sprakel. Both squads traded bucket for bucket resulting in a slim 12-11 lead for the Tigers with 3:30 left in the quarter. The rest of the quarter would be all Tigers closing out the quarter on a 10-2 run for a first quarter score of 22-13.
In the second quarter the Tigers had their first double-digit lead with a layup from Campbell to make it 28-18 with 6:55 in the half left. Thanks to Campbell's 12 points in the quarter the Tigers jumped out to a 17-point lead heading into the half. DWU continued their tough defense into the third quarter keeping the Bruins under 15 points for the third straight quarter. Tigers won the quarter 22-14 to give them a 44-27 lead heading to the fourth. Sprakel led with 7 points in the quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter the Tigers jumped out to their biggest lead of the game (31) thanks to an and one bucket from Campbell and Sprakel's second three-pointer of the game. Dakota Wesleyan offense would go cold following the baskets, not registering a made field goal until Mya Wilson got a layup to go with 1:24 left in the game. DWU held onto their big lead during the offensive slump though with tight, suffocating defense and converting free throw opportunities for a 77-57 final. This was a big win for the Tiger's beating a Bruins team by 20 points with the Bruins coming off victories against (RV) Dakota State and Hastings.
