Recap –
Both defenses came to play in the first quarter with DWU holding NWC without a field goal in the first 6:30 of the game and the Red Raiders holding the Tigers to just six points during that span. The Tiger defense only forced two turnovers during that defensive run and did it with tight defense and contesting every shot. Both teams continued to struggle to find a groove on the offensive end of the floor with a 11-10 DWU lead at the end of the quarter. The quarter ended with a Mya Wilson shot from deep to give the Tigers a lead. Dakota Wesleyan spread the ball around on the offensive side with all five buckets coming from five different Tigers.
Start of the second quarter was a different story with the Tigers opening the first couple minutes on a 9-2 run. All four baskets came from great feeds by Edelman. Rynn Osthus was a spark as well for DWU coming up with two big steals with her active hands in passing lanes and making it tough on the Red Raider ball handlers. Dakota Wesleyan jumped out to their biggest lead of the game 23-12 thanks to back-to-back three balls from Osthus and Campbell. That momentum would come to a screeching hault with Northwestern finally finding a groove on offense going on a 10-1 run to close the gap to just a two-point lead for the Tigers. The Red Raiders got a steal in the closing minutes and looked like they were going to have a wide open layup to tie it up before half but again Osthus came up with a hustle play running the Red Raider down and getting a big block to keep it 26-24 heading to half.
Rosenquist got the third quarter going with a bang with an offensive rebound and-one put back. With 7:11 left in the third quarter NWC grabbed their first lead of the game, leading 31-30. The Tigers continued attacking the Red Raiders inside with back cuts and cutting off screens to regain a 36-31 lead. Both squads continued to struggle on the offensive end though, only scoring 13 points apiece in the quarter. DWU had to lean on the inside game like they have all year with nothing showing from deep not recording a made three pointer during the entire third quarter. The Red Raiders went on a little run to close the quarter but DWU held a slim two-point lead going to the fourth.
The fourth quarter was one of the most dominant quarters for the Tigers all year only allowing four points and holding NWC scoreless in the closing seven minutes of the quarter. The Tigers continued with their downhill aggressive offensive attack drawing fouls from Northwestern and converting at the line. DWU recorded six of their 16 points at the free throw line during the quarter. Dakota Wesleyan forced eight turnovers during the quarter. The Red Raiders had no answer on offense with the Tigers suffocating defense resulting in a 55-41 statement win.
