How It Happened:
(Day 1) First round of the Siouxland Invitational took place at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa. The cold and windy weather proved difficult for all Tiger golfers, with Sara Sudenga coming out of round one with an 81. Coach Meyerink had this to say about Sudenga's day one performance, "Sara was really a couple swings away from having a tremendous day, I'm still impressed with her performance as a freshman." Erin Moncur was just a few strokes behind Sudenga, coming in 12 over to finish round one (84). Macee Bartels was the third best finisher for the Tigers in round one with a 91. Kaylee Johnson brought in her scorecard with a 92 and Ashton Austreim handed hers in with a score of 94 to round out day one for the Tigers.
(Day 2) Second round began in Sioux Center, Iowa at The Ridge Golf Club. The Tigers went over their mistakes from day one and showed improvement with fewer doubles and increased birdies and pars. The Ridge Golf Course was under some construction from rainfall, allowing free drops out of all bunkers. Sudenga and Moncur finished round two tied at 164 to in the top 15. Coach Meyerink had this to say about Sudenga, "That is the first time Sara has seen that course. She struggled on the front shooting 46, but didn't get down on herself, made a slight adjustment and shoots even on the back. That is an impressive turn around and couldn't be happier for her!" Johnson cut eight strokes from her round one score to finish with a 176. Austreim cut back on her strokes as well, coming in at 37 over par and finishing with a 181. Bartels finished the day with a 96 in round two and a two-day score of 187.
Coach Meyerink's Thoughts:
(Day 1) "Just an all-out tough day, cold and windy start. I thought we played okay early started leaking strokes coming in. We need to manage our misses better and control the damage on the tough holes. On top of that, these greens are some of the most difficult greens to read, if you're not confident in your line, you're not going to make a lot of putts."
(Day 2) "The Ridge is a very nice golf course, fast-fast greens and a lot of bunkers. The construction took some of the teeth out of the course. Far better back 9 today, 17+ as a team on the back gets us close to where we need to be. A lot to improve on but today was really the first day I've seen the ladies dig in and fight for every shot. If they give that effort every time, the results will continue to improve."
