TIGERS POST STRONG MARKS AND SEVERAL PERSONAL BESTS TO OPEN GPAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Crete, Neb. – Dakota Wesleyan track and field program records eight top-10 finishes after day one, including one top-3 finish from Nate Rupprecht in the decathlon shot put.
How It Happened
Chris Zanotto got things going for DWU with the hammer throw to start the day, placing 15th after his best mark of 44.89m. Lia Guigui recorded a sixth-place finish in the long jump after a mark of 5.34m, .02m better than Hastings long jumper Lauren Tamayo. Katlyn Briggs grabbed an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw, tossing up a mark of 47.02m. Morgan Taft recorded a mark of 44.49m, setting her in 13th place, as Darby Deffenbaugh placed 15th after her best mark of 44.09m. Gronseth stepped in for a 17th place finish after a 42.30m mark. The 100m hurdle preliminaries, the Tigers set two student-athletes in the top-15 as Adaya Plastow (16.08) and Avany Long (16.47) for 11th and 13th place. Plastow's time of 16.08 also marked a lifetime best, as Long's time of 16.47 is good for her collegiate best. Cale Strong grabbed a sixth-place finish in the men's pole vault with a personal best mark of 4.10m. Guigui ran the 100m dash preliminaries placing 12th after a 12.90 mark for a lifetime best and a 12th place finish. In the men's 4x800 relay, the Tigers posted a time of 8:14.56, composed of Hunter Shanks, Caleb Sayler, Justin Sorensen, and Wyatt Baldauf.
