DWU TRACK AND FIELD POSTS EIGHT TOP-10 FINISHES TO WRAP UP THE GPAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Crete, Neb. – Dakota Wesleyan track and field wrapped up with day two on the campus of Dordt. The Tiger men's team wrapped things up finishing in 11th. DWU women's track closed the books on conference track with a ninth-place finish.
How It Happened.
Lila Gronseth got DWU started in the discus throw, putting up a mark of 41.05m for a fifth-place finish. Darby Daffenbaugh just missed a top-10 finish after recording a mark of 38.52m. Cale Strong posted his best mark in the triple jump of 13.65m, making it good enough for a seventh-place finish. Ashtyn Evans set a mark of 9.97m to finish 18th in the women's triple jump. The women's high jump was a tight field event, as .03m was the difference between a first-place finish or a tie for second. Lia Guigui missed the top finish in the event after jumping 1.64m. Caden Milmine was a medal winner in the men's shot put after tossing a mark of 16.07m for third place. Gronseth garnered a bronze finish in the women's shot put with a mark of 13.68m. Wyatt Baldauf recorded a personal best in the 3,000m steeplechase after running a 10:13.28 for a ninth-place finish. The Tigers ran the 4x100m in 51.62 composed of Avany Long, Adaya Plastow, Taylor Pourier, and Guigui for a seventh-place finish. Annika Vermeulen ran the 1,500m race in 5:35.16, placing 17th overall. Justin Sorensen ran the 1,500m on the men's side in 4:14.11 for a 12th place finish. Hunter Shanks was .21 seconds away from a top-10 finish in the men's 800m race after running a 1:59.30. Plastow made a top-10 finish in the 400m hurdles after running a 1:07.65, which also marks a new personal best for her. Caleb Sayler recorded a 12thplace finish in the 5,000m run after posting a time of 16:24.54. In the final women's event of the day, the Tigers ran the 4x400 in 4:23.42 composed of Plastow, Long, Ashtyn Evans, an Pourier; while also dropping a full ten seconds off their season best. In the finals men's event for the GPAC Championships, the DWU men's 4x400 relay team posted a tenth-place finish composed of Shanks, Sorensen, Sayler, and Baldauf for a combined time of 8:14.56.
