Track & Field begins outdoor campaign
HASTINGS, Neb. – After a successful indoor season, Rex Schlicht (Woonsocket, S.D.) and Jared Rabenberg (Britton, S.D.) helped the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field teams kick off their outdoor season Sunday at the Bronco Invite in Hastings, Neb.
HASTINGS, Neb. – After a successful indoor season, Rex Schlicht (Woonsocket, S.D.) and Jared Rabenberg (Britton, S.D.) helped the Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams kick off their outdoor season Sunday at the Bronco Invite in Hastings, Neb.
Schlicht took home first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 58.84 seconds. Rabenberg also tallied a first-place finish in the high jump competition with a leap of 6-5.5 feet. Rabenberg also participated in the long jump and finished in second place with a leap of 21-9.5, while Mason Small (Huron, S.D.) finished in fifth with a mark of 19-9 and finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 40-2.25.
Tyson Jenkins (Clark, S.D.) picked up right where he left off in the indoor season in the shot put with an 'A' standard throw and a second-place finish with a toss of 53-6.25. Matthew Campbell (Gregory, S.D.) finished in fourth place and tallied a 'B' standard with a toss of 50-9.5. Jenkins also hit an 'A' standard in the hammer throw with a toss of 175-9, while Campbell finished right behind him with a 'B' mark and a toss of 171-8.
Devin Rihanek (Plankinton, S.D.) notched a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:25.96 minutes while freshman Austin Hughes (Box Elder, S.D.) picked up a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.17.
Mikaela Stofferahn (Dell Rapids, S.D.) grabbed a first-place finish in the discus also set a 'B' standard with a mark of 143-9. Stofferahn also tallied a 'B' mark and a third-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 43-8.5. Kamberlyn Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.21. Lamer also took home third place in the javelin throw with a toss of 116-2.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman duo Sage Pulse (Kimball, S.D.) and Emily McDonald (Crooks, S.D.) finished in second and third place for the Tigers, respectively. Pulse tallied a time of 1:06.79 while McDonald crossed the finish line at 1:10.74.
Samantha Schuyler (Winner, S.D.) participated in the steeplechase competition and took home second-place with a time of 12:34.65. Lia Guigui (Rapid City, S.D.) placed third in the high jump competition with a leap of 5-0.5. In the triple jump event, Lydia Gerber (Canton, S.D.) notched a second-place finish with a mark of 36-1.5 while Claire Stoller (Madison, S.D.) wrapped up fourth place with a leap of 34-0.25.
DWU track and field will be back in action at the Dordt Invite Saturday in Sioux Center, Iowa.
