MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University Athletics celebrated another strong year in the classroom as the 2018-19 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Scholar-Teams list was announced.
DWU had 15 of their 17 varsity programs make the NAIA Scholar-Team list. For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0-grade point average on a 4.0 scale as defined by the institution.
"This is another proud accomplishment for our programs and a strong reflection of the academic commitment of our student-athletes," Director of Athletics Jon Hart commented. "Not only does this honor highlight the work ethic of our students, but it also affirms our strong collaboration amongst coaches, faculty and staff."
The DWU women's basketball team led all teams with the highest GPA of 3.72, while the men's cross-country team followed close behind with a 3.68 team GPA. The volleyball team checked in at third with a 3.55 GPA, as the women's indoor track and field team was fourth with a 3.50 GPA and the women's golf and women's outdoor track and field teams tied for fifth with a 3.48 GPA.
This marks the second-consecutive year that DWU Athletics finished with 15 teams on the NAIA Scholar-Team list and the sixth-straight year with at least 14 teams on the list.
