How It Happened
Game 1
Dakota Wesleyan baseball was down to their final out early in the first inning of the game, until Seth Christiansen double to right center for the first runner aboard. With Christiansen in scoring position and two outs already tallied against DWU, Diego Jirau stepped to the plate hitting an RBI single up the middle for the 1-0 Tigers lead. After an efficient bottom of the first and second innings from the Tigers defense, leaving a pair of Jimmies stranded on base, DWU was back to driving in runs. The top of the third, after a lead off strike out, Lane Darrow doubled to left center. Christiansen then grabbed a two out, RBI double to right center field, pushing the Tigers lead to 2-0 of Jamestown. Jirau was intentionally walked as the next batter creating a force out at any base, but an error by the Jimmies starting pitcher loaded the bases, before DWU left them loaded. The Dakota Wesleyan bats cooled off in the fourth inning, as they were unable to get a runner on base before Jamestown tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning on a home run. DWU allowed UJ to plate two more runs on back-to-back hits in the bottom of the fifth as the Tigers were unable to drive any more across with limited base runners late in the game.
Jereko Martinez tossed five complete frames in game one, facing 24 batters on 90 pitches thrown as he was handed the loss. Martinez allowed five hits, four runs, two walks, and one home run; while striking out a pair of batters. Presten Riddle came into the game for the final inning of relief, throwing 11 pitches and facing five batters, allowing just one hits and one walk.
