DWU men head to Las Vegas twice, host two classics in 2016-17
MITCHELL, S.D. – Coming off another trip to the NAIA National Tournament, the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team hopes to return to continue its recent run of success in the 100th year of Tiger basketball.
MITCHELL, S.D. – Coming off another trip to the NAIA National Tournament, the Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team hopes to return to continue its recent run of success in the 100th year of Tiger basketball.
The Tigers open their schedule in the Corn Palace against Waldorf College on Oct. 28, before hitting the road for an exhibition against NCAA Division I power, University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Nov. 1 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Dakota Wesleyan University will play two games in the Pentagon Classic on back-to-back days against Dakota State University and Presentation College Nov. 5 and 6. The event is the first of its kind at the venue, highlighting the NAIA programs in South Dakota.
The annual TeamMaker Classic has been renamed the Beau Keeter Memorial Classic this season. The Tigers will play Bellevue University and Oglala Lakota College in the event on Nov. 11 and 12 at the Corn Palace.
After finishing third in conference play a year ago, the Tigers open the Great Plains Athletic Conference season with Dordt College Nov. 16 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The home portion of the GPAC slate gets underway with Midland University coming to the Corn Palace on Nov. 19.
The Tigers will compete in two holiday classics, including a return trip to Las Vegas for the Trip Sports Las Vegas Hoopla Dec. 20-21. DWU will take on Northwestern Ohio and Central Christian at the event. The Mike Miller Classic will once again include college basketball with DWU getting a rematch against York College on the first night. York knocked DWU out of the national tournament in the round of 16 last year. The Tigers will also take on Southeastern University (Fla.) in the annual Corn Palace event Dec. 29-30.
The post-break schedule opens with a trip to rival Dakota State University Jan. 2. The Tigers close the 2016-17 regular season at home against Northwestern College on Feb.15 as DWU will be gearing up for another postseason run.
