Recap:
Game one saw the Tigers earning the 9-1 victory of the Saints, collecting eight hits in the contest. Most of the damage came from the bottom of the order with the 6-9 hitters recording six of the eight hits. DWU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning taking advantage of a pair of Saints errors and getting some timely hitting with runners on base. Starter Dexter Payne cruised through the first four innings posting zeros across the way. The Dakota Wesleyan bats also stayed quiet during that span staying off the scoreboard to leave it a 5-0 ballgame. The Saints scratched an unearned run across to break up the shutout in the fifth but would be all they get going in the inning and rest of the game offensively.
The Tigers responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to get back in the scoring column. During the inning DWU got hits from Jake Kostenbauer, Crist, Brady Christoffels and Carmichael. Dakota Wesleyan plated another run in the sixth while keeping the Saints off the scoreboard in the final two innings thanks to quality innings out of the pen from Troy Wilhelm.
The first inning of game two was misleading inning for how the rest of the game would go. Both teams agreed to split home/away advantages for the game so DWU was the away team in game two and batted first and despite a Seth Christiansen two-out single, wouldn't get anything across. In the bottom half of the inning, Waddell recorded two quick outs before walking the next two batters. The Saints lone hit off Waddell would be a big one, being a three-run shot to give Presentation an early 3-0 lead. The rest of the game was all Tigers with DWU collecting two in the second, one in the third, five in the fourth and the biggest inning coming in the fifth when the Tigers plated nine runs on the PC staff.
That big nine run inning was fueled by Wilcoxen and Skorczewski both leaving the yard with two runners on. McGinnis also picked up a big hit in the inning driving in three runs off the base knock. Waddell really settled in after the first inning, only allowing one PC base runner to reach from the second to fifth inning before his day was over. Taylor McCart was first out of the pen tossing one inning and was followed by Presten Riddle throwing the final seventh frame to finish the 17-7 run rule win.
