TIGERS HOLD EARLY LEAD BUT FALL TO D2 MUSTANGS 11-3
Tucson, Ariz. – The Tigers dropped a single game against D2 opponent Southwest Minnesota State University 11-3. The Tigers were looking to be in the driver's seat with an early 2-0 lead through the first two innings, but a five run third inning flipped the table. DWU was outhit by the Mustangs 14-9 in the contest, but the biggest difference in the game was the 12 free passes the DWU staff issued compared to the four that SMSU had on the mound. Seth Christiansen got the nod for the Tigers and went 4.1 innings giving up eight hits, eight earned, and six walks. Most of the damage done to Christiansen was on a bases loaded inside the park home run that looked to be a routine sac fly but got caught straight in the Arizona sun. Logan Davis and Brady Christoffels did a solid job in relief going a combined 3.1 innings and only giving up one lone run.
At the plate DWU was led by Drew Kitchens and Lane Darrow both collecting two hits, while Darrow recorded the only extra base hit on the day with his double. Michael Zeman drove in two runs for the Tigers with an RBI ground out in the second and followed up with an RBI single in the fourth. At this point the Tigers trailed just 5-3, but the Mustangs ran away with the game at this point plating six more runs while keeping the Tigers scoreless in the remaining five frames. Dakota Wesleyan left nine runners on base in the contest.
