Seward, Neb. –
DWU baseball traveled to Seward, Neb. for their final matchup of the season against the Concordia University Bulldogs. The No. 19 ranked Bulldogs won both games over DWU, but not with ease and the Tigers stayed within reach through both games. Concordia took game one after putting two runs up late to win 3-1. The second game, originally schedule for nine innings, was called off after the eighth inning due to a massive storm cell going through Nebraska. Concordia had the lead and enough innings had been played, they were given the win, 2-1. DWU outhit the Bulldogs eight to four in both games, but we unable to take advantage with runners in scoring position.
Game 1 was a scoreless contest through two and a half innings before Concordia recorded the first run of the day. With Alexander Mizsak starting on the bump, he was able to take down the Bulldogs in order in the fourth to keep the game within one run. Caleb Meyers earned an RBI in the fifth inning with his triple to left that allowed Jake Kostenbauer to tie up the score. In the bottom of the sixth, Concordia put two runs on the Tigers to take the lead. DWU was only able to get one runner on in their final at bat and were unable to comeback, losing game one 3-1.
Game 2 saw Dexter Payne starting on the mound for DWU, pitching through seven innings with five strike outs. The Bulldogs had one run put on the board in the first inning and then neither team could score. DWU had six runners left stranded on base throughout the contest while they were able to keep Concordia limited on baserunners. The Bulldogs scored their last run in the bottom of the 7th to take the 2-0 lead heading into what would be the final half inning. DWU's one score came from a Seth Christiansen single that Lane Darrow was able to score on, bringing DWU within one run. It was at this point that the weather would hit Seward and the game would be canceled. DWU would lose the second contest 2-1.
This contest wraps up the season for the Tigers. DWU finished with an overall record of 15-35 overall and a conference record of 7-21.
