Orange City, Iowa – The Tigers dropped a pair of games on the road to the Northwestern Red Raiders. In game one the Tigers were involved in yet another pitching duel that needed extra innings again to decide it. It was DWU this time that was on the wrong end of a 10th inning walk off as NWC got an RBI single to drive in the runner on second for the 1-0 win. Seth Christiansen was dominant and near perfect in this one as he went 9 2/3 innings while collecting a career-high nine punchouts and carried a perfect game into the eighth inning before it was broken up by a bloop single with two outs. In game two DWU continued with their struggles on offense, scoring a lone run on just two hits in the 7-1 loss.
With Christiansen going nine shutout innings, the Tiger staff pushed their scoreless inning streak to 26 innings which is now the new program record. Mitchell Sand got the streak started with his nine innings in game one yesterday against Morningside followed by Logan Davis one inning of relief work, then Alexander Mizsak complete game seven inning shutout in game two pushed it to 17 and then today wrapping up with the nine innings. The Tigers only recorded one extra base hit on the day which came from Christiansen himself in game one with a double down the right field line. DWU is now 2-2 in conference play while sporting a miniscule 2.20 team era (seven of the eight runs coming in game two today), was a 0.34 era in the previous three games.
Up Next: The Dakota Wesleyan Baseball returns to Mitchell for a single game against in state rival Dakota State for a non-conference game Tuesday, March 19 with first pitch at 3 p.m.
