Burr places second at GPAC Championships
YORK, Neb. – With blustery winds and tough course conditions on the final day, freshman Jade Burr (Belle Fourche, S.D.) secured a second-place finish as the Dakota Wesleyan University women’s golf team took third place out of 12 teams at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships on Friday and Saturday from York Country Club in York, Neb.
YORK, Neb. – With blustery winds and tough course conditions on the final day, freshman Jade Burr (Belle Fourche, S.D.) secured a second-place finish as the Dakota Wesleyan University women's golf team took third place out of 12 teams at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships on Friday and Saturday from York Country Club in York, Neb.
Following the first two rounds in the fall, Burr was tied for the lead. After the third round on Friday, Burr was still tied for the lead after shooting a 79. However, in the final round Burr carded an 87 due to the strong winds throughout the day. This put her in second place with a four-round total of 316, just five shot back from the leader.
With a top-10 finish, Burr is named to the All-GPAC Women's Golf Team for the 2018-19 season. The finish was the highest at the conference tournament by a DWU women's golfer since Lauren Fitts in the 2015-16 season.
Senior Niki Nelson (Platte, S.D.) finished tied for 16th as she tallied a 94 in the third round and an 88 on the final day. Freshman Megan Hinker (Lennox, S.D.) took 22nd with an 88 and 93 on the final two rounds, while fellow freshman Jayden Bormann (Parkston, S.D.) tied for 26th with a total of 360 for the tournament.
Kaitlyn Greenhoff (Dell Rapids, S.D.) did not compete in the fall qualifier, but she carded an 88 on the third round and an 89 on the final round of the spring qualifier.
DWU took third out of 12 teams, as University of Jamestown took second and 19th ranked squad in the NAIA, Morningside College won the GPAC Championships.
