Stofferahn, Campbell grab first-place finishes
YANKTON, S.D. – Mikaela Stofferahn (Dell Rapids, S.D.) and Mattew Campbell (Gregory, S.D.) both tallied first place finishes as the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Mount Marty Twilight Meet on Wednesday in Yankton, S.D.
YANKTON, S.D. – Mikaela Stofferahn (Dell Rapids, S.D.) and Mattew Campbell (Gregory, S.D.) both tallied first place finishes as the Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Mount Marty Twilight Meet on Wednesday in Yankton, S.D.
Stofferahn took home first place in the discus competition with a mark of 144-09 feet, good for an automatic qualifying throw. She also took second in the shot put with a toss of 44-11, hitting her second 'A' standard of the meet. Campbell grabbed first place in the shot put with a toss of 54-01.75, grabbing an automatic qualifying spot at the national meet. Campbell also tallied a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 168.02.
In the 1,500-meter run, Samantha Schuyler (Winner, S.D.) finished in second place with a time of 5:01 minutes, while right behind her was Mckenna Rodgers (Saint Michael, Minn.) who tallied a third-place finish with a time of 5:04. Alyssa Weidler (Sioux Falls, S.D.) took home second place in the long jump with a leap of 16-10. Lydia Gerber (Canton, S.D.) finished in third behind Weidler with a jump of 16-08.
Taking home second place in the long jump was Jared Rabenburg (Britton, S.D.) who tallied a leap of 40-01. Taking third place in the triple jump was Mason Small (Huron, S.D.), while Tyson Jenkins (Clark, S.D.) place third in the hammer throw with a mark of 182-0.
Emily McDonald (Crooks, S.D.) finished in fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. The freshman posted a time of 16.47 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 1:14.84 in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the triple jump, Gerber notched a second-place finish with a leap of 35-08, while Kristen Longville (Lake Preston, S.D.) finished in third with a mark of 34-0.
In the 200-meter dash, three Tigers competed in the event. Austin Hughes (Box Elder, S.D.), Jacob Becker (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Tyler Larson (Mitchell, S.D.) all finished in the top-10 and within a second of each other. Hughes finished sixth at 23.41, Becker at 23.94 and Larson at 23.98.
Savannah Schmidt (Plankinton, S.D.) finished in fourth place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 22:12.02, while Bryce Blank (Rapid City, S.D.) finished seventh in the same race on the men's side with a time of 17:50.43.
In the 200-meter dash, Meghan Travis (Minneota, Minn.) collected a fifth-place finish with a time of 27.35 and Sage Pulse (Kimball, S.D.) finished eighth with a time of 28.54. Rex Schlicht (Woonsocket, S.D.) participated in the 400-meter hurdles and finished in fifth place with a time of 57.81.
Calob Jones (Aberdeen, S.D.) finished in fifth place in the shot put with a mark of 49-5.75 and placed seventh in the discus throw.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team and 4x400-meter relay team brought home third-place finishes. The 4x100-meter team included Pulse, Travis, McDonald and Weidler who finished in 51.66. The 4x400-meter team consisted of Gerber, Schuyler, Kamberlyn Lamer (Hartford, S.D.) and Pulse who finished with a time of 4:30.86.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team finished in second place with a time of 3:28.13. The team consisted of Devin Rihanek (Plankinton, S.D.), Nate Rupprecht (Bennington, Neb.), Schlicht and Hughes.
Both track and field teams will return to action at the Drake Relays and the Concordia Blizzard Buster this weekend.
