DWU takes 6th at GPAC No. 3
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team competed in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Qualifier No. 3 of the year Monday at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team competed in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Qualifier No. 3 of the year Monday at Firethorn Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
The Tigers finished in sixth place as a team carding a 325. After the first three GPAC qualifiers DWU finds themselves in fifth place with a three-round score of 926. Morningside College led the field with a team score of 311, while Northwestern College is the overall leader after the first three rounds with a 904.
Senior Tyler Burr (Belle Fourche, S.D.) was the top finisher for DWU. Burr finished the day with an 80 and tied for 14th. At the top of the leaderboard was a three way tie between Ferran Cortilla (Morningside), Renen Sahr (Midland University) and Nolan Zikas (Concordia University) who all shot a 74 on the day.
Senior Anthony Husher (Winner, S.D.) and junior Thomas Hogg (Aberdeen, S.D.) both shot an 81, tying for 17th place. Junior Michael Whitney (Brandon, S.D.) ended the day with an 83 finishing in a tie for 25th. While junior Cal Wiese (Fedora, S.D.) finished in 33rd place carding an 85.
Individually, Hogg sets the pace for the Tigers as he is setting in a tie fourth place after the GPAC Qualifier No. 3 with a three-round total of 227. Teammate Husher is also in the top 20 with a three-round score of 235. Leading the way currently is Doane College's Mack Alspaugh carding 219 through three rounds of play.
DWU men's golf team will return to action at Briar Cliff on April 18.
