DWU men set new team record, win Wild West Invite

GOTHENBURG, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team set a new school record for best 18-hole team score as the Tigers won the Wild West Invite hosted by Hastings College Sunday in Gothenburg, Neb.
The win is the first for the Tigers this season, as a pair of golfers tied for the individual lead. DWU won the team title with a score of 277, nine strokes better than the team record 18-hole score set in 2010. The Tigers finished 16 strokes better than second-place Southeast Community College.
Senior Anthony Husher (Winner, S.D.) and junior Thomas Hogg (Aberdeen, S.D.) tied for the individual win. The pair shot a 66, six under par, one stroke higher than the DWU school record of 65 held by three former Tiger golfers.
Junior Cal Wiese (Fedora, S.D.) and sophomore Russell Pick (Kimball, S.D.) each shot even par at 72 to tie for fifth place, while senior Tyler Burr (Belle Fourche, S.D.) tied for seventh with a 73. Junior Michael Whitney (Brandon, S.D.) also had a strong day, posting a 76 and tying for 14th.
The Tigers continue the spring season at the Midland Invite Saturday at Oakland Golf Course in Oakland, Neb.
