MITCHELL, S.D.– The final 36 holes for the Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships will be held on Monday and Tuesday at the Dakota Dunes Country Club in Dakota Dunes, S.D. After the fall rounds, DWU is sitting tied for seventh place.
Leading the way for the Tigers is Devan Weelborg (Bryant, S.D.) as he carded a 151 through his first 36 holes. He finished with a 79 in his first round of the fall and followed that up with a 72 in his second 18 holes. Heading into the final two rounds, Weelborg is tied for ninth.
Behind Weelborg is Cade Carpenter (Mitchell, S.D.) who is tied for 18th. He finished with a 76 in his opening round, followed by a 79 on day two. Freshman Jack Brinkman (Jackson, Minn.) is behind Carpenter and is tied for 35th. He finished the fall with a 164 after two rounds.
Payton Phares (Rapid City, S.D.) finished just two spots behind Brinkman as he finished tied for 37th with a 165. Rounding out the five golfers is Bennett Lundy (Aberdeen, S.D.) who is tied for 46th. Despite carding a 174 in the fall, Lundy is coming off one of his most impressive finishes of his career a week ago with a second-place finish at the BCU Men's Spring Invite.
Replacing Phares for the spring will be Tony Hayes (Sioux Falls, S.D.). Most recently, Hayes finished tied for ninth place with a 148 at the BCU Men's Spring Invite.
