Tigers wrap up spring season with seventh-place finish at GPAC Championships
Finishing 91 strokes over par through 36 holes, the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team secured a seventh-place finish at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships on Monday and Tuesday from the Dakota Dunes Country Club in Dakota Dunes, S.D.

Dakota Wesleyan registered a score of 608 through 36 holes and a grand total of 1,243 as DWU ended just three strokes out from sixth place behind University of Jamestown. Devan Weelborg (Bryant, S.D.), who tallied a score of 308, was the highest placer for the Tigers. The DWU sophomore recorded an opening-round mark of 78 followed by a 79 on the final 18 holes.
Cade Carpenter (Mitchell, S.D.) finished just three strokes behind Weelborg with a total score of 310. The Dakota Wesleyan senior erased three strokes between the first and second rounds and placed 17th with a total of 155.
Bennett Lundy (Aberdeen, S.D.) and Jack Brinkman (Jackson, Minn.) ended the competition inside the top-30 as the duo carded scores of 147 and 150 in the spring finale, respectively. Lundy, who tied for 25th, led DWU in the front 18 with a 72 and concluded the second day with a score of 75. Meanwhile, Brinkman tied for 27th place as the Tiger freshman tallied a total of 322 in the championship event.
Also competing for Dakota Wesleyan, was Tony Hayes (Sioux Fall, S.D.) who carded a 78 in the first round and a score of 72 in the final 18 holes, though, did not record a total score as he competed in just two rounds.
The 2020-21 campaign concludes for the Dakota Wesleyan men's golf team as the Tigers are set to return a total of seven golfers next season.
