Gerber hits NAIA National ‘B’ Mark in triple jump
VERMILLION, S.D.– Competing against NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA schools, Lydia Gerber (Canton, S.D.) finished third in the triple jump, on her way to a NAIA National ‘B’ Mark. Gerber and the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Red Raider Open and the South Dakota Challenge on Friday and Saturday in Orange City, Iowa, and Vermillion, S.D.
VERMILLION, S.D.– Competing against NCAA Division I, Division II and NAIA schools, Lydia Gerber (Canton, S.D.) finished third in the triple jump, on her way to a NAIA National 'B' Mark. Gerber and the Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Red Raider Open and the South Dakota Challenge on Friday and Saturday in Orange City, Iowa, and Vermillion, S.D.
Gerber highlighted an impressive slate of performances by the Tigers over the weekend. Gerber secured her third-place finish thanks to a leap of 37-11.5 feet (11.57m). Her mark was good for a 'B' standard as she provisionally qualified for the national outdoor meet. Gerber is also now 10th in the NAIA in the triple jump and is second in program history.
Competing in the Heptathlon, Avany Long (Oacoma, S.D.) finished in 17th place. Her point total of 3,389 places her fifth all-time in the event. Meanwhile in the discus, Katlyn Briggs (Plankinton, S.D.) finished in 26th with a toss of 127-7 feet (38.90m). Her throw moves her to fifth on the all-time list in program history.
Lia Guigui (Rapid City, S.D.) finished the high jump with a 10th-place finish after a jump of 5-1 feet (1.55m). Her performance over the weekend moved her to sixth all-time in program history.
On the men's side, Ryan Kienzle (Gillette, Wyo.) took 22nd in the hammer throw. His toss of 150-3 feet (45.80m) puts him fifth all-time in the event. In the men's 4x800-meter run, the crew of Wyatt Baldauf (Seneca, Ill.), Devin Rihanek (Plankinton, S.D.), Hunter Shanks (Bennington, Neb.) and Justin Sorensen (Vermillion, S.D.) finished in fourth place as they competed at the Red Raider Open on Friday. Their time of 8:14.24 minutes not only secured a fourth-place finish, but also moved them into ninth all-time in the event in program history.
The DWU men's and women's track and field teams will compete next at the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.
