Tigers compete at Sioux City Relays and Jim Dutcher Classic
SIOUX CITY, Iowa– The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the Sioux City Relays on Friday in Sioux City, Iowa and took part in the Jim Dutcher Classic on Saturday and Sunday in Crete, Neb.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa– The Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the Sioux City Relays on Friday in Sioux City, Iowa and took part in the Jim Dutcher Classic on Saturday and Sunday in Crete, Neb.
The throwing team had an impressive weekend as they recorded three top-10 program finishes in the discus and hammer throw. Leading the way was Katlyn Briggs (Plankinton, S.D.) as she took seventh in the discus after a toss of 127-8 feet (38.92m), moving her to fifth all-time in program history. In the hammer throw, Briggs finished in 13th place thanks to a throw of 138-5 feet (42.20m). The mark put her second in program history in the event.
Also competing in the hammer throw were Darby Deffenbaugh (Kimball, S.D.) and Morgan Taft (Norris, S.D.). Deffenbaugh finished just behind Briggs in 14th place after a throw of 138-5 feet (42.18m), placing her third in program history. Taft, who owns the school record in the event, placed ninth after her throw of 148-3 (45.18m).
On the men's side, Caden Milmine (Buffalo, Wyo.) and Ryan Kienzle (Gillette, Wyo.) each competed in the shot put. Milmine took fifth with a throw of 49-9.25 feet (15.17m), while Kienzle took ninth thanks to a mark of 45-9.25 feet (13.95m). Kienzle also placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 134-3 feet (40.91m).
On the track in Sioux City, freshman Tessa Kilber (Ipswich, S.D.) finished in 30th place in the 1,500-meter run. Her time of 5:07.78 minutes moved her to seventh on the all-time list. Also on the track, Lydia Gerber (Canton, S.D.) came away with a ninth-place finish in the 100-meter dash after clocking a time of 13.27 seconds.
Gerber also competed in the long jump and snatched a fifth-place finish after a leap of 17-0.5 feet (5.19m). Competing in the javelin was Jocelyn Krouse (Montrose, S.D.) as she came away in ninth thanks to her throw of 94-10 feet (28.90m).
Both the men's and women's teams will compete next at the Northern State Invite at noon on Saturday in Aberdeen, S.D.
