DWU softball drops three at PC Dome Classic

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team was back in action in the Presentation College Dome Classic on Sunday in Aberdeen, S.D.
In game one, DWU was unable to muster any runs until the fifth inning against No. 21 Dickinson State University. Despite adding three runs in the latter portion of the contest, the Tigers fell 6-3. Senior Lorissa Loeppky (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) took the loss on the mound after tossing four and a third innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking one.
The Tiger offense scattered 10 hits, led by Amber Budmark (Sacramento, Calif.) as she went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Alize Martinez (Palmdale, Calif.) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while scoring two runs. Paige Kinley (Worthington, Minn.) added a triple in the loss.
DWU squared off with future Great Plains Athletic Conference member, the University of Jamestown. The Jimmies went on to defeat the Tigers 8-3. Martinez had a successful day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Sierra Karly Severance (Las Vegas, Nev.) went 1-for-4 with a double. Freshman Andrea Konz (Mitchell, S.D.) suffered the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits in four innings of work.
In the finale, the Tigers dropped a 7-1 decision to in-state rival Dakota State University. Budmark registered her first home run of the year, while going 2-for-3 at the plate. Melysia Ortega (West Covina, Calif.) added a double in the loss. Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.) took the loss after tossing five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out six and walking one.
The Tigers (1-7) travel south to compete in the Tucson Invitational, taking on Missouri Valley College at 9 a.m. on March 4 in Tucson, Ariz.
