Concordia edges DWU
HASTINGS, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team began postseason play against Concordia University in the first game of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament in the Hastings Bracket as they fell to the Bulldogs, 3-2 in Hastings, Neb.

HASTINGS, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team began postseason play against Concordia University in the first game of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament in the Hastings Bracket as they fell to the Bulldogs, 3-2 in Hastings, Neb.
The Tigers got things going in the top of the first as Melysia Ortega (West Covina, Calif.) knocked home the first run of the game. Concordia answered with a home run in the bottom of the third and bottom of the fifth to take the 2-1 lead.
Karly Severance (Las Vegas, Nev.) tied the game as she knocked a home run over the left field fence in the top of the sixth. However, the Bulldogs hit their third home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth to advance past DWU.
Severance finished 1-for-1 with a home run and an RBI while Ortega went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.) took the loss on the mound after pitching six innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and striking out three batters.
DWU plays in the elimination game tonight at 6 p.m. in Hastings, Neb., and will play the loser of Hastings College and College of Saint Mary.
