DWU splits GPAC battle with Doane
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team hosted Doane University for a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference games Thursday night. DWU won the first game, 3-0 and lost the second game, 12-1 in five innings at Dr. McWhirter Field in Mitchell, S.D.

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team hosted Doane University for a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference games Thursday night. DWU won the first game, 3-0 and lost the second game, 12-1 in five innings at Dr. McWhirter Field in Mitchell, S.D.
DWU (17-28, 7-7 GPAC) got to work early as it scored three runs in the bottom of the first. The three runs were all DWU needed as their defense held Doane (19-19, 4-8 GPAC) scoreless and came away victorious in Game One.
Amber Budmark (Sacramento, Calif.) went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Lorissa Loeppky (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.) picked up the win on the mound after pitching seven innings and striking out a batter, allowing five hits and walking two.
Game Two saw Doane put up seven runs in the first inning while DWU tallied one run. Doane put up five runs in the next four innings as the game ended due to run rule.
Alize Martinez (Palmdale, Calif.) went 1-for-3 with a run. Budmark, Haage and Loeppky each finished 1-for-2. Loeppky took the loss after pitching an inning, allowing five earned runs off five hits.
The Tigers hit the road for another GPAC battle as they take on Midland University for a doubleheader starting at Noon Sunday in Fremont, Neb.
