MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University Athletic Director Jon Hart has named former alumnus and current interim director of sports information Jerrett Mills to lead the sports information and marketing department beginning July 1, it was announced Thursday.
After graduating with double majors in journalism and communications from DWU in 2016, Mills was named the graduate assistant and took over as the interim in September of 2016. Mills is no stranger to the athletic department, serving as an intern for two years under former SID Nick McCutcheon. During his time as an intern and GA, Mills was responsible for maintaining the athletic website, all social media platforms, photography, record keeping and statistics for the school's 16 intercollegiate programs. He also helped with the publication of the media guides that won national awards in the annual NAIA-SIDA Publications Contest.
"I couldn't be more excited to announce Jerrett as the next SID at Dakota Wesleyan University," Hart said. "In the interim role, Jerrett has done a phenomenal job and has emerged as the perfect fit for the position. He brings an invaluable skillset to our department that allows us to market our athletic programs and institution at the highest level. Our entire staff is thrilled to have Jerrett lead the charge in this changing and demanding world of sports information."
During his college career, Mills interned with the Sioux Falls Canaries, a professional independent baseball club in Sioux Falls, S.D., as a media and marketing intern. He also worked as a part-time sports reporter for the Mitchell Daily Republic and as a marketing reporter for DWU. Mills also interned with the NCAA and The Summit League as a media liaison for the NCAA Women's Basketball Regional held in Sioux Falls, S.D.
A former resident of Norfolk, Neb., and alumnus of Norfolk Catholic High School, Mills resides in Mitchell and is completing a Master's degree in educational policy and administration from DWU.
