Tiger baseball splits doubleheader against Briar Cliff
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team opened up Great Plains Athletic Conference play against Briar Cliff University and lost the first game 3-2, and defeated BCU in the second game 9-7, Thursday in Sioux City, Iowa.

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University baseball team opened up Great Plains Athletic Conference play against Briar Cliff University and lost the first game 3-2, and defeated BCU in the second game 9-7, Thursday in Sioux City, Iowa.
Scoring came at a premium in the first game for both teams. The Chargers (14-7, 3-1 GPAC) added a run in the first inning and third inning. But, the Tigers (5-10, 1-1 GPAC) narrowed the margin in the fifth inning as Reed Harter (Colome, S.D.) singled to left field, bringing a run home.
BCU took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. DWU attempted a comeback in the seventh inning after notching a run. However, one run was all the Tigers would get as they dropped game one, 3-2.
Harter finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs, as Wes Anderson (Duluth, Minn.) and Kyle Bailey (Brandon, S.D.) each went 1-for-3. Landon Neugebauer (Mitchell, S.D.) went 1-for-2 with a run and Colten Boudreau (St. Clement, Manitoba, Canada) went 1-for-2 at the plate. Gavin Reichmuth (Chandler, Ariz.) pitched six innings and struck out two batters.
The Chargers took an early 3-1 lead in the second game after the first inning. DWU added a run in the third inning, but BCU tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 5-2. In the top of the seventh, Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing home a run. Moments later, Joseph Hanisch (Hartford, S.D.) knocked a double into left-center field, adding two runs and taking a 6-5 lead. However, BCU tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth, Anderson hit a double to left field, bringing Neugebauer home for a run and a DWU victory.
Anderson finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Harter went 3-for-5 with a homerun and an RBI. Hanisch went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, as Heith Williams (Madison, S.D.) finished 1-for-4 at the plate. Dillon Stadlman (Parkston, S.D.) picked up the win on the mound after pitching three and two-third innings, striking out four batters.
The Tigers return to action as they take on GPAC foe, Midland University at 1 p.m. Sunday in Fremont, Neb.
