Doane takes two from DWU softball
CRETE, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team headed south to take on Doane College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday in Crete, Neb.

CRETE, Neb. – The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team headed south to take on Doane College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday in Crete, Neb.
DWU took an early lead in game one, but Doane rallied with the next five runs to take the opener 5-1. In the finale, Doane scored three in the first and held on for a 6-1 victory to earn the sweep over DWU. The losses drop Wesleyan to 19-13 overall and 2-2 in the GPAC.
In game one, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead when freshman Savannah Ahumada (Turlock, Calif.) stole home in the first inning. Doane responded with the tying run in the bottom of the frame and a two-run home run in the third inning to take the lead for good.
The loss went to freshman pitcher Sierra Haage (Sioux Falls, S.D.), who tossed six innings, allowing five runs, four earned on 11 hits. Haage is 8-4 on the season. Ahumada was the lone DWU batter with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4. Wesleyan finished with one run on six hits and an error.
Ahumada added three hits in game two, but the Tigers could not find the big hit as Doane pulled away early. Ahumada went 3-for-4, including a pair of doubles and an RBI as she continues to close in on the DWU all-time RBI record. Senior catcher Hailey Unger (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) added two hits and a stolen base.
Freshman pitcher Hallie Misiaszek (Mitchell, S.D.) started game two, going five innings, allowing six runs on nine hits with two strikeouts. DWU finished with one run on nine hits and no errors.
DWU continues GPAC play against College of Saint Mary in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Sunday in Omaha, Neb.
