Records fall for DWU track and field at GPAC Championships
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships and set numerous school records on Friday and Saturday in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mikaela Stofferahn (Dell Rapids, S.D.) qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the discus throw after a toss of 139-06 feet, taking sixth place. On the men's side, Tyson Jenkins (Clark, S.D.) finished with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 52-11. Matthew Campbell (Gregory, S.D) took fifth in the discus with a throw of 160-03, while taking eighth in the shot put after a mark of 50-6.25.
Jared Rabenberg (Britton, S.D.) set a new personal record in the long jump with a leap of 22-6.25, good for fifth. He tied a personal record in the high jump after taking fourth with a jump of 6-7.5. Rabenberg finished the weekend with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump after a mark of 44-10.25. Lane Tibbs (Kenesaw, Neb.) took third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:02.59, while placing eighth in the 5,000-meter run after a time of 16:13.46.
Freshman Callie Heath (Colome, S.D.) took fourth in the 400-meter dash after a time of 1:00.16 minutes, while McKenna Rogers (Saint Michael, Minn.) brought home a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 19:39.15. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Shailhyn Schweigert (Burke, S.D.) set a personal record and third best finish all-time in DWU history with a fifth-place finish in 12:44.66.
Two more records were broken as freshman Morgan Taft (Norris, S.D.) set the school record in the hammer throw after a toss of 145 feet. In the 4x800-meter relay, the team of Rogers, Schweigert, Samantha Schuyler (Winner, S.D.) and Kelsie King (Mission Viejo, Calif.) broke the school record after a time of 9:54.55, taking fifth place.
The team combined points from the GPAC Championships is the most combined team points at the GPAC Championships in DWU track and field history with 64 points.
The Tigers are back in action at the Last Chance Meet on Friday in Seward, Neb.
