DWU track and field tallies three All-Americans at national championships
GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded the 2018 outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. After competing through difficult conditions all weekend, three of the four members finished with All-American honors.
GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams concluded the 2018 outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. After competing through difficult conditions all weekend, three of the four members finished with All-American honors.
Sophomore Jared Rabenberg (Britton, S.D.) kicked off the weekend for the Tigers as he competed in the high jump. He earned All-American status as he finished in eighth place with a jump of 6-7.5 feet. This was the second time Rabenberg competed at the national championships as he took 13th in the high jump at the indoor track and field championships in March.
Next up was junior Tyson Jenkins (Clark, S.D.) as he competed in the shot put on Saturday. Jenkins secured his second All-American award of the year after he took sixth place with a toss of 56-8 feet. He earned All-American status at the indoor national championships in the shot put after a throw of 57-5.5 feet.
The third All-American on the weekend was Mikaela Stofferahn (Dell Rapids, S.D.) who competed in the discus. After an impressive sophomore season, she finished with one of her strongest finishes of her career. Stofferahn took sixth place with a throw of 140-0 feet. The only better finish she notched in her career was a throw of 143-11, which was the mark the landed her at the national championships.
The fourth Tiger who competed in Alabama was freshman thrower Matthew Campbell (Gregory, S.D.). Campbell was the only athlete to compete in two events as he threw in the discus and the shot put. In the discus, he notched a 21st-place finish after a throw of 148-11 feet. In his final event of the season, Campbell finished with a toss of 49-6.25 feet in the shot put, good for 23rd place.
The DWU men's and women's track and field teams concluded the outdoor and indoor seasons with four total All-Americans combined.
