WOMEN’S WRESTLING WRAPS UP SEASON AT KCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS, SMITH SECURES 4TH PLACE
Crete, Neb. –
The DWU women's wrestling team wrapped up their 2023-24 season at the KCAC Conference Championships this afternoon. Freshman Olivia Smith had the best day for the Tigers as she finished 4th in the 155 class. Isabelle Camarillo was the next best finisher as she scored 5.0 points for the team.

Mady Sargent (1-2) opened the first round of the championship bracket with a technical fall over a York wrestler (11-0). Sargent would advance to the quarter finals and be pinned 61 seconds into the bout and move to the consolation bracket. In her last match of the day, Mady would be pinned by a Midland Warrior. Mady scored 2.5 points for DWU.

Isabelle Camarillo (2-2) dropped her opening face off after being pinned late in the contest (4:11) against a Midland wrestler. Camarillo would win her next two contests via pin against an Avila wrestler (2:31) and a Friends University wrestler (2:57). In the third round of the consolation bracket, Isabelle would lose via fall at the 1:33 mark. Isabelle scored 5.0 points for DWU.

Olivia Smith (2-2) advanced to the quarterfinals after receiving a bye in the first round. In her first match, she defeated a Doane Tiger with a pin just after the two-minute mark (2:08). Smith would meet her match in the semis as she would get pinned at the end of period. In her first round of the consolation bracket, Olivia would pick up a quick victory as she pinned her opponent in the first 34 seconds. Smith now in the third-place bout, would be in for a battle. Smith and her opponent went toe to toe for the whole period but unfortunately Olivia would not be able to outscore the Hastings wrestler. Olivia Scored 13.5 points for DWU.

Cayley Maynard (0-2) dropped her first match via fall against a Hastings wrestler. She would have to forfeit her next match due to an injury.

"Coming in we knew it was going to be a tough tournament, but we finished with a 4th place finish and two in the Top-8. I am proud of all these ladies and their effort today."
This tournament would draw the DWU women's wrestling season to a close. The Tigers finished in 11th place as a team with 21.0 total points and Smith securing a 4th place finish would lead the team.
