DWU WOMEN’S WRESTLING KCAC CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
Mitchell, S.D. –
The Dakota Wesleyan women's wrestling prepares for the KCAC Tournament in Crete, Nebraska. The Tigers have shown immense growth and seen a lot of success throughout the season.
A Look back at the Season –
The Tigers competed in 13 total duals and tournaments this season. DWU hosted the first ever women's collegiate dual in the state of South Dakota back in November as they hosted the University of Sioux Falls. As the season progressed, the under classmen started to show their improvement in collegiate wrestling. To open the new year, Jayden Lange won an individual title at the Hastings Open in the 136-weight class. In their last home dual of the season, the Tigers defeated D-3 opponent Buena Vista University, 20-15.
Athletes to Watch –
- Isabelle Camarillo has gone 10-16 so far this season as a true freshman. After starting the season with a handful of losses, the freshman has finished the regular season 10-9 run. She helped lead the Tigers past BVU in their home dual victory.
- Olivia Smith leads the Tigers with the most individual wins so far this season with her record of 13-10. Smith has been a crucial member for the Tigers in the 155-weight class and finished the season going 4-2 in the last in the final four duals and tournaments of the season.
- Cayley Maynard has wrestled in a handful of the duals and tournaments so far and finished the season 0-8 so far. She will look to make some noise at the KCAC Tournament.
- Mady Sargent, the only returning wrestler for the Tigers, has posted a season record of 1-20 so far. Sargent has been a team leader for the team and been a crucial member of the young program at DWU.
Head Coach John Lynch –
"Going into this weekend, the ladies have to find the right mindset that they can wrestle with anyone who steps on the line. We have had success this season so focus on the things that are working and fine tune them. It's an amazing opportunity to be able to compete for a chance at the national tournament and they are grateful to be in this position."
KCAC Tournament –
The Tigers will hit the road and travel to Crete, Neb. to Doane University. The tournament is set to start at 10:00 a.m. on February 24th. There will be NO CASH AT THE GATE, all tickets must be purchased online at Hometown Ticketing.
