How It Happened:
Day one, the Tigers finished with a team score of 329 and were ranked third. Erin Moncur finished with a 79 to lead the Tigers. Sophomore Ashton Austreim came in just two strokes behind Moncur, as she finished round one with an 81. Sara Sudenga, the freshman, finished round one with an 83. Kaylee Johnson finished fourth for the Tigers with an 86. Becky Koepke turned in her scorecard with a 95 to round out day one for the Tigers.
Day two took place at Willow Creek Golf Club where the Tigers ran into some tough course conditions. Coach Meyerink had this to say about round two; "The greens were just plugged, and the team was frustrated. I never saw anything go in for us outside of five feet, and when the people you're playing against are finding a way to get the ball in the hole, it just makes it that much tougher mentally." Moncur finished tied for eighth for the Tigers, as she finished round two with an 83. Sudenga continued to impress, as she finished with an 85 and tied in 17th at the end of the day. Austreim finished her second round with an 88. Johnson walked off the course with a 94. The final Tiger, Koepke, finished with 98.
Coach Meyerink's Thoughts:
Day 1: "Pretty good day for the team, we left shots out there on the front but played well as a team on the back to move up the leaderboard. When you're on a tight course, it can be tough to let your swing go. Erin played great on the back, she had a tough 9th hole but quickly put that behind her and carded a 38 on the back to lead the way for us."
Day 2: "Just too many mistakes we can't make at this level. We had a pretty good day yesterday and I feel like we are getting closer to where we need to be, I just hope they don't get too down over the performance they had today. We will put this in the rear view and see if we can keep things moving in the right direction next week in Rapid City."
