Hedstrom inks with DWU women’s basketball
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University head women’s basketball coach Jason Christensen grabbed another Nebraska native for next season in O’Neill St. Mary’s product Breanna Hedstrom.
MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University head women's basketball coach Jason Christensen grabbed another Nebraska native for next season in O'Neill St. Mary's product Breanna Hedstrom.
Hedstrom is a three-time letter winner in basketball for O'Neill St. Mary's High School. In her junior season she averaged four points and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 31 percent from the field. As a senior she is averaging 9.6 points, 2.4 assists, 2.3 rebounds and three steals per game. During her time as a Cardinal she won a basketball championship, two volleyball championships, while helping the St. Mary's track and field team to a state championship and a runner-up finish.
In volleyball, she was named a Class 'D2' First Team at the Libero position, while being named an honorable mention from the Lincoln Journal Star and the Niobrara Valley Conference. In the classroom, she was an Academic All-State member as a senior and was a member of the honor roll for three years, while being named to the principal's honor roll her senior year. She is the daughter of James and Lisa Hedstrom and plans to major in nursing at DWU.
"Breanna brings athleticism and the ability to score at the guard position," Christensen said. "We are excited to have her as a member of our Tiger family."
The No. 9 Tigers return to conference action as they host Dordt College at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
