Voss shines on Senior Day in DWU win over Hastings

The Tigers (26-3, 16-3 GPAC) honored six senior members of the team prior to the game including student assistant coach Lee Niewenhuis (New Holland, S.D.), forward Luke Bamberg (Corsica, S.D.), forward Stephen Lee (Viborg, S.D.), guard Kris Menning (Corsica, S.D.), guard Joey Mitchell (Tulare, S.D.) and forward Jalen Voss (Worthington, Minn.).
The Tigers pulled away from the Broncos with a late first-half run closing on a 19-6 run to take a 17-point lead into the locker room. DWU shot 51 percent from the field for the game and hit nine 3-pointers.
Voss led the Tigers with 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the field, while grabbing five rebounds and hitting two 3-pointers. Junior guard Trae Bergh (Crooks, S.D.) added 19 points, with 12 coming in the first half. Bergh hit three 3-pointers, pulled down six rebounds and came away with four steals.
Menning added 15 points and six assists, while Mitchell finished with 11 points and four assists. Luke Bamberg chipped in with seven points, nine rebounds and a block.
The Tigers shot 32-of-62 from the field and 9-of-27 from deep, while outrebounding Hastings 34-30. DWU finished with 18 assists and seven turnovers as a team.
Hastings was led by Tobin Reinwald with 12 points, while Drew Callaghan and Zach Lenagh each added 10 points. The Broncos shot 23-of-56 from the field and 7-of-21 from behind the three-point line.
The Tigers close out the regular season with a matchup against instate rival Mount Marty College at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Corn Palace.
