Menning, Spicer lead No. 3 DWU men past Mount Marty

Spicer scored a career-high 20 points in just 18 minutes for the No. 3 Tigers in an 86-65 win over instate rival and Great Plains Athletic Conference foe Mount Marty College Wednesday in Yankton S.D.
The Tigers started the second half on a 21-8 run to pull away from the Lancers and improve to 19-1 overall and 9-1 in the GPAC. The game marked the halfway point of the GPAC season for the Tigers, who sit at the top of the conference standings after an eighth consecutive win.
Senior guard Kris Menning (Corsica, S.D.) led the Tigers in scoring for a second straight game, finishing with 24 points, while adding six rebounds and four assists. Junior guard Trae Bergh (Crooks, S.D.) added 16 points, while junior forward Jade Miller (Mitchell, S.D.) added 11 points after being inserted into the starting lineup in the absence of Voss.
The Tigers shot 30-of-64 from the field and 5-of-21 from behind the three-point line. DWU outrebounded MMC 44-31 and finished with just five turnovers as a team.
DWU's defense held the Lancers to just 38 percent shooting from the field. MMC made 24-of-63 shots from the field and 7-of-21 from deep. MMC was led by Cody Willett with 11 points, while Bud Smith added 10 points and five rebounds.
The Tigers return home to start the second half of the GPAC season when Nebraska Wesleyan University comes to the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D., at 4 p.m. Sunday.
