Platte-Geddes’ Coby Johnson Signs with DWU
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team is gearing up for the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament starting Wednesday, but Coach Matt Wilber picked up a commitment for the 2015 recruiting class that will help out down the road.
MITCHELL, S.D. – The Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team is gearing up for the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament starting Wednesday, but Coach Matt Wilber picked up a commitment for the 2015 recruiting class that will help out down the road.
Platte-Geddes 6-foot-5 forward Coby Johnson signed his National Letter of Intent on Friday to play basketball for the Tigers next season.
Johnson comes to DWU with a history of winning, helping lead the Black Panthers to the 2014 South Dakota Class B title game. He was named the Mitchell Daily Republic Player of the Year for his performance in 2014, while also earning Elite 8 Athlete of the Year and All-State First Team awards.
Johnson has scored more than 1,000 points in his career for Platte-Geddes, while averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds in his senior season. Johnson is also a member of the Black Panther football and golf teams.
In the classroom, Johnson is a member of the National Honor Society and is ranked second in his class.
Coby is the son of Chad and Darla Johnson and is undecided on his major at DWU.
