MEN’S GOLF FINISH FIFTH AT MOUNT MARTY INVITATIONAL
Yankton, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan Men's Golf team finished strong on day two of the Mount Marty Invitational. The Tigers finished in fifth place as a team with Peyton Bettcher leading the way. Bettcher finished the meet in fifth place.
How it Happened: Bettcher picked up right where he left off, knocking down two birdie putts in the first four holes and ending round two, three over par. Like his first round, Bettcher limited his mistakes to three bogies but had a double bogey today. Coach Jeff Meyerink had this to say about Bettcher's performance, "Peyton played well the last couple of days, it was a couple pretty low stress rounds with a lot of tap in pars. Good start to his season placing in the top five." Bettcher finished the meet five over par, putting up 149 through the thirty-six holes.
Carson VanBeek picked up his play going 14 over par on the meet on his way to grab 19th. VanBeek rolled in a pair of birdies and cut back on his mistakes from day one significantly by ending round two with a score of 77, four strokes better than round one.
Connor Calahan struggled through the front nine but found his footing after the turn, going for par on seven of the last nine holes. Calahan tied for 20th recording a 159 over the two-day meet to finish just 15 strokes over par.
Jackson Childs finished the day 13 over par for round two of the Mount Marty Invitational.
Coach Meyerink's Thoughts
"The guys made some poor decisions of the tee mostly, we had 16 penalty shots and when you have to take them all, it's tough to move up the leaderboard. I'm not concerned at all; we have some things to work on, but we will improve and we will contend this season."
